Walking tour Croatia
1.DAY
Arrival and accommodation in hotel 3*** in Zagreb
2.DAY
Zagreb - overnight
Breakfast in the hotel. Sightseeing of Zagreb, Croatian capital city, including the fortified Upper Town, the city’s historical centre, St Mark’s church with multi-coloured roof, the Cathedral, Croatian National Theatre and University.
After dinner excursion to the Trakošćan. Of fall the ancestral homes of the Croatian Zagorje, Trakošćan is the best-known and the most frequently visited. We remember it for its owners, the Drašković family, alongside the Zrinskis the best-known Croatian feudal family. We see it as the incarnation of nineteenth-century Romanticism, as the perfect synthesis of nature and architecture. Even today the visitor still feels the enthusiasm Đuro Szabo felt half a century ago, in 1939, when he wrote: "... I do not know whether I felt happier in any of our parks than in that of Trakošćan. The first time I saw it, it enraptured me and the feeling is repeated whenever I go there. Here is a profound and eternal harmony between the park and lake, the stream of Bednja and the surrounding hills. The mythical castle is so unusual that I am sure that unhappy dreamer King Ludvig of Bavaria would sooner have found peace here than in his own Neuschwanstein, which lacks any spirit of the past".
Impressively placed on a conspicuous coneshaped hill, with a garden in the middle of wooded parkland, Trakošćan is a cultural monument of the highest category. Far away from towns, slightly isolated in the rolling country between Ravna gora, Macelj and Strahinščica, it has one of the most beautiful and best-maintained parks with a rich and varied vegetation, full of interesting views, panoramas and atmosphere. Return to the hotel in Zagreb. Dinner and overnight.
